One February my professor assigned a fitting prompt for the Free Write: “Be My Valentine.”
Without a valentine myself I reflected on connecting in the broader sense which inspired this:
Be my valentine because there is so much violence in the news each day.
Be my valentine so amidst all the red, white, and pink we are connected, even if just for a day.
Be my valentine because sweet and impressionable kids are often led astray, because everything is going to give us cancer, and because we only socialize through technology.
Be my valentine because the pyramids are still standing, because thousands of children are adopted into loving families.
Be my valentine because every now and then we catch the eye of a stranger and smile. It’s not creepy or awkward or weird. It’s just a smile, a little valentine.
